Over the years, Robin van Persie has played with – and against – some of the game’s best players.
A career which saw him represent Feyenoord, Arsenal, Manchester United and Fenerbahce, the 35-year-old had plenty to mull over when he was quizzed by the BBC on his best boss, best team-mate and best opponent.
Arriving in England from Holland for less than £3million, Van Persie went on to establish himself as one of the best strikers in his generation.
A clinical finisher, rarely ever flustered, but as the quickfire questions were put to him, the Dutchman was left scrabbling for his answers.
‘It’s not going so well is it? Oh my God this is difficult,’ he said, after failing to think of his best strike partner.
But while he could not choose a player to join him in attack for an all-time career XI, Van Persie had no doubts in his mind when he was selecting his most impressive opponent – or more accurately, opponents.
