Manchester United are preparing to make a £40million bid for highly-regarded Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali after watching him in action last week.
The Brescia prodigy is attracting attention from a host of elite European clubs thanks to his impressive displays in his debut Serie A campaign.
Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are all in the chase for the 19-year-old, who recently described himself as a blend of Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso.
According to The Sun, Manchester United have also joined the race and sent scouts to watch Tonali last week.
They oversaw him play the full 90 minutes in Brescia’s 0-0 draw with Fiorentina and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly received glowing reports from his scouting team.
An Old Trafford source commented: ‘We have known about Tonali for 18 months but our Italian scouts say he has gone to the next level and United need to get involved – he could be a generational talent.’
The teenager, who also started out at Brescia, is enjoying his first season in the top flight having won promotion with the Lombardy club last season.
A potential £40m has been mooted but the Italian club’s president Massimo Cellino recently claimed he is worth £260million.
