Matthijs de Ligt admits there is a “logical option” for him this summer amid interest from Manchester United .
United made De Ligt their No.1 transfer priority this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bids to improve his defence.
Barcelona have been in pole position for the Dutchman for some time but have failed to reach an agreement amid claims De Ligt had altered his wage demands.
The Red Devils would be willing to trump Barcelona’s proposal and will hope that could lure De Ligt to Old Trafford, despite the lack of Champions League football.
But reports earlier this week suggested a £75m bid had been launched by Juventus for the Ajax skipper, who is now the hottest property in world football.
De Ligt admits he has a number of options but one stands out – and he has hinted staying at Ajax could even be a possibility.
“I am very excited about what could happen in the near future. I am also trying to stay calm, though,” he told RTL4.
“I view this as a challenge — that is the most important thing.
“There are several options and I really want to pick the best one. Logically, one option is better than another.
“Life abroad could be difficult, but I am still an ordinary Dutch guy, I am no different to the others. Perhaps living abroad will be more intense for me.”
De Ligt’s comments come after former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal urged the teenager to join rivals City.
“He could play at Barcelona, but he could play for Manchester City also, and in that case I would choose Pep Guardiola over Lionel Messi,” Van Gaal said.
