Four of the last five two-legged encounters between teams from England and France in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase have seen the french side progress.

Fact You Need To Know! No French team has ever beaten Manchester United away from home in European competition (D4 L10). In the Champions League, only two French sides have avoided defeat at Old-Trafford ;-

  • Monaco in March 1998 (1-1)
  • Lille in October 2005 (0-0)

Paris Saint-Germain have won only 10 of their away games in all competitions against English opposition (D4 L5). It was a 2-1 victory against Chelsea in March 2016 in the round of 16, the last time they progressed through a knockout round of the Champions League.

Manchester United have won only one of their last nine Champions League knockout games (D3 L5), it was against Olympiakos in March 2014 (3-0).

Paris Saint-Germain have reached the Champions League knockout stages for a seventh consecutive season, the longest current run after Real Madrid (22), Barcelona (15) and Bayern Munich (11). However! They have never progressed further than the quarter-finals in that time, dropping out at round of 16 in each of the last two campaigns.

Manchester United Team News

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Manchester United will have almost a fully fit squad available for Tuesday night’s big Champions League clash with Paris St-Germain.

Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian missed Saturday’s 3-0 win at Fulham, before which Solskjaer said the defensive pair had “niggles” which could keep them out “for a couple of weeks”.

The full-backs also did not appear during the 15 minutes of Monday morning’s training session which was open to the media.

Speaking exclusively to MUTV before his pre-match press conference, Ole gave an update on the injury situation ahead of the French champions’ visit to Old Trafford for the first leg of the last-16 tie.

“We’re missing Antonio [Valencia] and Matteo [Darmian] – they’re the two that are not available,” the Norwegian told Stewart Gardner.

“It’s a big, strong and healthy squad which is always [good] when the big games come up – many to pick from.”

Valencia has not played since the 2-0 win at Newcastle on 2 January, while Darmian hasn’t featured since appearing as a late substitute in our 2-1 win over Brighton on 19 January.

Paris Saint-Germain Team News

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel admitted it would be “very difficult” for Edinson Cavani to feature on Tuesday night after the Uruguayan striker was withdrawn through injury at half-time on Saturday, after scoring the penalty which proved decisive in their 1-0 victory over Bordeaux in Ligue 1.

The French outfit were already missing the services of star Brazilian playmaker Neymar, who has been ruled out due to a metatarsal issue.

However, there was some positive news for PSG at the weekend as Italian midfielder Marco Verratti played just under an hour after returning to the starting XI against Bordeaux after several weeks out with ankle trouble.

We could learn more about how the French side may line up for tomorrow’s game when Tuchel speaks to the media at Old Trafford from around 17:45 GMT today.
