Manchester United men and women teams were promoting the Red Devil’s latest global commercial partnership with hair and personal care giants Remington

Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has mocked Paul Pogba for his lack of facial hair while the France international claims that looking good helps him to play better.

The duo, along with Marcus Rashford and United’s women’s team players Katie Zelem, Leah Galton and Mollie Green, were promoting the Red Devil’s latest global commercial partnership with hair and personal care giants Remington.

And Mata mocked team-mate Pogba for his inability to grow facial hair, which the Spaniard claims he has been able to do since his teenage years.

‘It’s something that has been with me for so many years, since I can remember,’ said Mata.

‘I think since I was 17 or 18, I started to have a beard.’

Turning to Pogba, he added: ‘He’s trying, all day he’s trying, nothing is growing there!’

Pogba replied: ‘There’s nothing, just a little bit here!’

The former Juventus midfielder also revealed the impact changing his hairstyle  has on his game.

The 25-year-old has cycled through several different looks throughout his career, with streaks of red, yellow and blue as well as varied intricate patterns.

Pogba has attracted criticism from pundits in the past for his elaborate hairdos but the midfielder explained why in actual fact, they help him to play better.

‘I think if you look good, in your head you think, “oh, I look good today”, so mentally, you play better,’ he said.

He also claimed looking good is also important because of the fame that comes with being a footballer.

‘You can’t really hide anymore, when you play people see you, they watch the game,’ he added.

‘Football is becoming even more famous, it’s everywhere. Taking pictures is normal, so you try to look good!’

In-form striker Rashford also discussed how confidence on the field encourages him to take more risks.

The England forward has found a new lease of life under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring six goals in ten games under the Norwegian.

‘When you’re playing your best football, that’s when your personality comes out on the pitch,’ he said.

‘I’m [a] very relaxed [person] , but if I see the opportunity to do something flashy or something a bit different then I do that and I think it’s the same off the pitch as well.’

Mata expressed shock when he learned that winger Galton spends 50 minutes to an hour a night on her hair.

The former Bayern Munich player revealed that her hairstyles have become progressively more extravagant throughout her career – including having ‘MUFC’ emblazoned on her head, according to team-mate Zelem.

‘I’ve got more extravagant with my hairstyles the longer I’ve played,’ she said.

‘It does take a while, it often takes 50 minutes to an hour, so you (Mata) probably won’t have experience of that!’

Remington are United’s 70th commercial partner, joining a list of companies including Chevrolet, DHL, EA Sports, AON and 20th Century Fox.

The Red Devils will be looking to extend their 10 match unbeaten run against Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage.

United have clambered up the table since the sacking of Jose Mourinho, leapfrogging Arsenal in the process. They are now fifth, just two points off Chelsea in the top four.
