Man Utd face transfer blow as Ruben Dias release clause increase from €60m to €100m (£88m)

Manchester United face paying up to €100m (£88m) for Portuguese star Ruben Dias with his release clause set to almost double.

The centre-back is reportedly one of three targets from Portugal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, alongside team-mate Joao Felix and Sporting captain Bruno Fernandes.

But according to A Bola , Dias is on the verge of penning a new contract at Benfica which would substantially increase his wages and protect his value.

The new deal would see clubs required to pay €100m to trigger his new release clause, a huge rise from the €60m release clause included in his current deal.

Reports from Portugal last month suggested United have already opened negotiations over the 22-year-old, although Juventus are also keen.

Dias has enjoyed an impressive campaign and will now link up with Portugal for their Nations League action with his contract situation ongoing.

Central defence remains a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his summer rebuild.
