Confirmed! Manchester United squad to face AZ Alkmaar

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected a 21-man squad to travel to the Netherlands ahead of our UEFA Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar.

10 Academy graduates, flew out of Manchester Airport this morning ahead of tomorrow’s match in the Hague, which kicks off at 17:55 BST.

Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes have been included in the squad after injury, while left-back Brandon Williams could follow up last Wednesday’s senior debut with a first European appearance for the Reds.

As confirmed by Ole in his press conference following Monday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones will sit out the trip with injury, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw also haven’t traveled. Wan-Bissaka missed the clash with the Gunners due to tonsilitis, while Shaw has been absent since picking up a hamstring injury during the Crystal Palace match in August.

Following a specialist’s opinion, Paul Pogba requires a period of further rest and conservative treatment for the foot injury he sustained during the game against Southampton in August. Updates will follow in due course.

Manchester United Travelling Squad

Goal Keepers: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Axel Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo, Brandon Williams
Mid-Fielders: Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, Fred, James Garner, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Angel Gomes
Forwards: Daniel James, Tahith Chong, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood.

United go into Thursday’s match at the Cars Jeans Stadium in The Hague top of Group L after our 1-0 win at home to Astana two weeks ago. Mason Greenwood netted the only goal of the game after 73 minutes to end the Blue and Yellows’ obdurate resistance and become the Reds’ youngest-ever European goalscorer.

AZ, who sit third in the Eredivisie, held Partizan Belgrade to a 2-2 draw in Serbia in their opening game in the competition, despite being down to 10 men for much of the contest after Jonas Svensson’s early sending off.

Ole opted to make nine changes to his side for the match against Kazakhstan’s champions when they visited Old Trafford and could rotate again tomorrow, with Sunday’s trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United looming on the horizon.
